IIF Import Error Doctor — Fix QuickBooks Desktop Imports
When an IIF import fails, QuickBooks rarely tells you why. Load the file here and this doctor checks it the way QuickBooks will: header rows, required columns, date formats, account names, balancing, encoding, and duplicates — then lets you download a cleaned-up .iif.

What this tool checks
Parse an IIF before QuickBooks sees it: header rows, dates, balancing, encoding, and duplicates.
Files
IIF or tab-delimited text file
Columns
- !TRNS / !SPL — header rows must be present and ordered
- DATE — readable dates, MM/DD/YYYY preferred
- ACCNT — no blank accounts; names must exist in your company file
- AMOUNT — each block must balance to zero
Output
.csv · parsed transactions and list rows for review in a spreadsheet.
Then import in QuickBooks Desktop: File → Utilities → Import → Import IIF Files
How to use this file in QuickBooks Desktop
Work on a backup. Run File → Back Up Company first; imports are easiest to undo on a copy of the company file.
- Load the .iif file that QuickBooks rejected (or one you are about to import).
- Work through the issues list — each one names the line and what QuickBooks will object to.
- Fix anything account-related in QuickBooks itself (every account name must exist exactly as written).
- Click "Download cleaned .iif" to get a normalized file: canonical headers, MM/DD/YYYY dates, trimmed fields, CRLF line endings.
- Import in QuickBooks Desktop: File → Utilities → Import → Import IIF Files.
